Majesty: Monarchy And York Minster

Discover York Minster’s royal connections and collections through a new exhibition exploring the cathedral’s centuries-old relationship with the monarchy in celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. With footage of royal weddings and artefacts from the royals’ history, you can also try on regal robes, bear a crown and sceptre, and pose for a majestic photograph showing off your best royal wave!

The exhibition runs all year so there’s plenty of time to explore the royal relationship with York Minster.
Booking is essential so make sure you get a ticket. A lovely cycle along the River Ouse and past Clifford’s Tower will get you in the right mood for exploring the magnificent York Minster in the centre of town – plenty of cycle parking nearby.

Platinum Jubilee Holiday at the National Railway Museum

Families can celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with hands-on activities everyone can enjoy. The National Railway Museum has an amazing amount of family-friendly activities to commend the occasion – including a Royals On Rails exhibition – exploring the Royals’ love of railway travel that includes fascinating bespoke trains, art, design and luxury.

The exhibition is running until September 2022 and entry is included in the free admission ticket for the rest of the museum. A cycle down York’s famous Bishopthorpe Road will take you to the Museum.

Beacon Lighting Ceremony at York Explore Library

Head over to the York Explore Library for an evening Beacon Lighting Ceremony on Thursday 2 June to mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee in the city. This short event will include a welcome from the Rt Honourable Lord Mayor of York, alongside contributions from York Pipe Band, The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment and Dunnington Community Choir.

It starts just after 9pm and concludes at 10pm so make sure you have lights on to be more visible (included in our hire package along with helmets and locks). There are few ways to cycle there, and there are plenty of cycle parking options at the library. Alternatively, you can park up by the Perky Peacock and walk over Lendal bridge.

Bishy Road Street Party

The Bishy Road Street party is back! On Sunday 5 June from 11am – 6pm the whole of Bishopthorpe Road (lovingly referred to locally as “Bishy Road”) will be closed to traffic and will be party central. With stalls and live music and so many family-friendly activities, it’s an event that we all look forward to. A very short cycle ride from GCHQ and plenty of cycle parking means you don’t have many excuses to miss out!

We will be closed Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd of June. We will be open Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of June 10am – 4pm.
