Get Cycling CIC is bringing free inclusive cycling sessions to Scarborough and Ripon, giving disabled people and people with long-term health conditions or additional support needs the opportunity to try specialist cycles, build confidence and discover new ways to cycle.
Getting back on a cycle can feel like a big step. You might not have cycled for years, you might never have found a cycle that works for you, or you may simply want to see whether cycling could become part of your everyday life.
That’s where Get Cycling North Yorkshire comes in.
Our new programme offers free, supported inclusive cycling sessions in Scarborough and Ripon, with a range of specialist cycles available to try. You don’t need previous cycling experience, your own cycle or even an idea of what type of cycle you need. Our experienced team will help you explore the options and find something that feels right for you.
Inclusive cycling for different needs
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to cycling. Our specialist cycle range includes tricycles, handcycles, recumbents, tandems, side-by-side cycles and wheelchair-accessible cycles, giving people the chance to try different ways of cycling.
Our team can help with adjustments and positioning so that you can find a comfortable and suitable set-up. You can take your time, ask questions and try more than one cycle during your session.
The aim isn’t to find the “best” cycle. It’s about finding a cycle that works for you.
You are also welcome to bring a family member, friend, carer or support worker if having someone with you would help you feel more comfortable.
Try cycling in a safe environment
Sessions start in a safe, enclosed space where you can get used to the cycle without the pressures of traffic or busy public routes.
For some people, the first session will simply be about trying something new. For others, it could be the beginning of a longer journey towards cycling more regularly.
Where appropriate, participants can progress to supported rides on outdoor trails and roads, helping to develop the skills and confidence needed for cycling as active travel and everyday journeys.
There is no pressure to progress. Everyone starts from a different place, and we’ll work with you at your own pace.
Free inclusive cycling in Scarborough
Our Scarborough inclusive cycling sessions take place at Scarborough Sports Village, with sessions running monthly from October 2026.
The venue provides a safe, enclosed environment for trying specialist cycles and building confidence. There is free on-site parking, including accessible parking spaces, along with step-free access, accessible toilets and changing facilities, lift access and a Changing Places facility.
If you have additional accessibility requirements, please tell us when you express your interest. We are happy to discuss what would help you take part.
Inclusive cycling in Ripon
We’re also bringing Get Cycling North Yorkshire to Ripon, with sessions being developed locally.
If you live in or around Ripon and would like to try an inclusive or specialist cycle, you can register your interest and we’ll contact you with further information about upcoming sessions.
Who are the sessions for?
The programme is for people in North Yorkshire who face barriers to cycling because of a:
- disability
- long-term health condition
- additional support need
You don’t need to have a particular type of disability or cycling experience. If you’re unsure whether the programme is suitable for you, get in touch and we can talk through your needs.
What could cycling look like for you?
For some people, cycling is about getting outdoors and being active. For others, it can provide a way to travel to local destinations, spend time with family or friends, or become more independent.
An accessible cycle can make a real difference when a standard bicycle isn’t suitable.
That’s why we’re not just offering a cycle try-out session. We’re creating an opportunity for people to explore what cycling could look like for them and, where they want to, build towards continuing to cycle.

You don’t need to know which cycle you want to try. That’s what we’re here to help with.
