Bike Shop & Workshop

Full-service Bike Shop in York

We are a friendly, community-owned bike shop offering new and refurbished cycles of all kinds: for commuting, for leisure, for families and for special needs. If you need your bike serviced or repaired our highly qualified and experienced mechanics will be delighted to help you. On top of all that we have hire bikes and are on a major bike route. We are a not-for-profit organisation, and your custom supports all our pioneering work helping people with disabilities to enjoy cycling just like everyone else.

Cycle Service & Repairs

Our highly experienced mechanics are qualified to Cytech Level 2 & 3. Our rates are modest, and we maintain high ethical standards in our advice and service. We generally have a fast turn-around, and some repairs (especially punctures) can be done while you wait. If we can’t complete the job quickly we have free courtesy bikes to keep you mobile (at our discretion and a deposit may be needed). Repairs and services can be booked in by phone or dropping off in store.

Collection & Delivery

We offer a pick-up and delivery service to your home or workplace. These visits are undertaken by one of our professional mechanics, who will examine your cycle(s) and give clear, impartial advice and an estimate of the repair cost. If the repair turns out to be uneconomical we will fully understand. Most punctures and cable replacements can be done and charged for on the spot, but in general we prefer to bring bikes back to our workshop, where we have all the right parts, tools and facilities. We may be able to bring you a courtesy bike while yours is with us.

For collections within Greater York, including Poppleton, Haxby and Dunnington, the cost is £8 per journey. Please phone our bike shop to learn more or to book: 01904 636812, option 1.

New Bikes & Accessories

We stock several leading brands and are also proud to be Raleigh premier dealers. Raleigh is now owned by a major Dutch cycling brand, which has brought massive design and quality improvements over the last ten years. Our stock includes city bikes, family cycles, electric bikes, adapted cycles and load-carriers. Like most bike shops, we have a range of parts and accessories. We do not have an online shop, preferring to relate to you in other ways. We can often order for the next day and even deliver to your home.

Recycled Bikes

Our Bring Back Bikes programme refurbishes bikes of all kinds, and keeps a stock of at least 40 cycles, so we’ll probably have something for you. We go beyond the bare minimum, both technically and cosmetically. In many cases we need to replace tyres, cables, transmission parts and broken spokes. We also do not recycle bikes which are low quality in the first place. For this reason our adult cycles are rarely priced at less than £100, but you get care and quality. All work is undertaken or closely supervised by our highly qualified professional mechanics and we provide a detailed breakdown of our work on each cycle and a six-month guarantee. Please donate your unwanted cycles!

We aim to give you confidence in your choices and comfort in your riding. Our support and guidance can help you find the right cycle, which we can adapt and adjust for your exact needs. Once we have explained all the options, it is not unusual for some customers to choose a cycle or adaptation they had never thought of! We provide open-minded, impartial advice, not sales pressure.

Bike Hire & Group Rides

We have hire bikes to meet most needs, including everyday hybrid bikes, tandems, specialised disability cycles and children’s bikes. Take a ride on any of our delightful traffic-free routes for a perfect day out for families, couples and friends. We are on Cycle Route 65/66, just 150 metres from the Millennium cyclists’ bridge, which is the nexus of York’s cycle route network. Larger group bookings are welcome, and we can also transport our hire bikes to where you need them to be.

Lifetime Support

Your cycling needs change over time, and this is especially true if you have a growing family, are getting on in years, or live with a disability. We support, we fit adaptations, we have a large demo fleet, we part-exchange, we refurbish, we do our best to meet restricted budgets. This is part of our role as a Community Interest Company, and why we operate nationwide.
