Every year on 11 November, Social Enterprise Day celebrates the work of social enterprises across the UK and around the world.

At Get Cycling CIC, being a social enterprise is central to who we are and what we do. With that, our mission is simple:

To ensure that anyone who wants to cycle has the opportunity.

Cycling with a social purpose

Get Cycling CIC is an independent, community-focused social enterprise based in York. We work with customers, families, organisations and communities across the UK.

We specialise in specialist cycles, including tricycles, recumbents, tandems, handcycles, wheelchair transporters and other cycling solutions.

Our team works with manufacturers and suppliers from around the world. This allows us to offer a wide range of cycles and find solutions for people with different needs.

Our experienced team also provides cycle assessments, custom builds, servicing and repairs. Where possible, we look for practical ways to make cycling work for the individual rider.

Why does cycling matter?

We believe cycling can offer much more than a way to travel.

For some people, the right cycle can provide greater independence. It can also create opportunities to exercise, spend time outdoors and connect with other people.

Cycling can be a source of enjoyment, freedom and confidence. It can also provide a more sustainable way to travel.

That is why we are particularly passionate about helping people who may otherwise face barriers to cycling.

A social enterprise with a long history

Get Cycling CIC was founded in 2008 by a family with a passion for cycling and social inclusion. Today, it remains an independent organisation, with the founders continuing to support the business as directors.

Over the years, we have worked to develop new products, services and activities that help more people experience cycling.

We also work with other organisations that share our commitment to inclusion, sustainability and positive change.

Making cycling more accessible

One of the things that makes our work different is our willingness to look for solutions.

There isn’t one cycle that works for everyone. Sometimes, finding the right option takes time, conversation and a little creativity.

Our team works with individuals, families, community organisations and other partners to understand what people need from cycling.

We also offer new and refurbished cycles. As a result, we can provide more affordable options wherever possible.

Through projects, events, loans and cycle hire, we continue to look for ways to make cycling more accessible.

Celebrating the wider social enterprise sector

Every year, Social Enterprise Day is an opportunity to recognise the thousands of organisations across the UK that use trading as a way to create positive social or environmental change.

Social enterprises operate across many different sectors. They provide employment, support communities, tackle environmental challenges and create services that benefit society.

We are proud to be part of that wider movement.

This Social Enterprise Day, we’re taking part in Social Enterprise UK’s #WhoKnew campaign. The campaign highlights the work of social enterprises and the difference they make to people’s lives.

For us, the answer to “Who knew?” is simple.

We knew cycling could change lives. And we want more people to have the opportunity to experience it.
