Van Raam VeloPlus

The Van Raam VeloPlus is designed for an adult to ride with a passenger in a wheelchair on front platform. The rear rider has full control of the steering and brakes. Made in the Netherlands, this is a quality machine and is built to last.

Standard features include automatic battery lights, hydraulic front brakes, drifter gel saddle, AXA defender lock, environmentally friendly paint, parking brake, wheelchair lock, hip belt, secure wheelchair fixings, wheelchair protection, and 5-year guarantee on the frame.

A tilted ramp makes it easy to roll the wheelchair on to the front platform and fasten it securely with the wheelchair lock. The optional, electric winch system makes this even easier.

The low position of the front platform (and wheelchair) means the centre of gravity is lower, making for an easier ride. The wide positioning of the front wheels and ‘extra steering’ – a combination of Ackerman and Sensor-Point mechanisms (see video) – allow for a tighter turning-circle and increased stability.

The main advantages of a steer-from-the-rear tandem cycles are that the rider sitting at the rear can see and communicate much more easily with the front passenger and monitor their wellbeing more easily. Steer-from-the-rear tandem cycles allow the front rider to enjoy a view of the road ahead and feel more involved in the ride.

Adapt and Customise

Electric assist: this product is also available with an electric motor. The electric assist ‘Silent System’ is produced entirely by Van Raam. The motor, battery, controller, smart display, and software are developed especially for inclusive cycles. The motor also assists when reversing the cycle (pedalling backwards). A smartphone app connects with the settings of the e-system, and can record cycling data, including speed and distance. Battery capacity can also be viewed on the app, real-time.

The Silent electrical system is a 36 Volt system with 250-Watt motor. The pedal sensor detects movement and force and adjusts output accordingly. The system is very smooth – unexpected jolting, which can occur in other systems, is prevented with the Silent System.

Other colours are available at extra cost, in any of the standard RAL colours.

Other available options include electric winch, extra battery pack, reinforced front frame (platform), suspension seat-post, wing mirror.

A range of adaptations is available. See the Accessories & Adaptations section of this website.
