Van Raam Opair

Description

Standard features include 8-speed Shimano Nexus hub gears, lights, armrests, lap strap, hand guards, front hydraulic disc brakes, independent front suspension, parking brake, lock, and environmentally friendly paint.

Split frame (optional), the front chair is easy to separate from the rear section, which allows the chair to be used independently from the cycle.

The front seat of the Opair can be adjusted to fit the passenger. The angle of the front seat and back rest can be adjusted too, as can the hinged footrests. There is also an option for expandable side rests, making the bike suitable for children and small adults. The Opair can be altered completely with a variety of options, and a personal seat can be affixed (optional receiving adapter for R82 modular wheelchair systems available).

‘Extra steering’ – a combination of Ackerman and Centre-Point mechanisms (see video) – allow for a tighter turning-circle and increased stability.

As well as being comfortable and stable, another great benefit of the Opair is that it is narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway.

Adapt and Customise

Electric assist: this product is also available with an electric motor. The electric assist ‘Silent System’ is produced entirely by Van Raam. The motor, battery, controller, smart display, and software are developed especially for inclusive cycles. The motor also assists when reversing the cycle (pedalling backwards). A smartphone app connects with the settings of the e-system, and can record cycling data, including speed and distance. Battery capacity can also be viewed on the app, real-time.

The Silent electrical system is a 36 Volt system with 250-Watt motor. The pedal sensor detects movement and force and adjusts output accordingly. The system is very smooth – unexpected jolting, which can occur in other systems, is prevented with the Silent System.

Detachable frame (wheelchair can be disconnected and used on location).

Receiving adaptor for modular wheelchair systems (R82).

Other available options include back-pedal brake, extra battery pack for electric assist, 4 or 5-point safety belt, adjustable head support and wing mirror.

Other colours are available at extra cost, in any of the standard RAL colours.

A range of adaptations is available. See the Accessories & Adaptations section of this website.
