Meet the faces behind Get Cycling: Paula
Our success is powered by an exceptional team, and we’re excited to introduce you to the people who make it all happen.
Today, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our newest team members – Paula!
1. What’s your name and your role at Get Cycling?
I’m Paula and I’m the Engagement Manager.
2. How long have you been working with us?
I only started in May of last year but time has flown by!
3. What do you enjoy most about working at Get Cycling?
At least once a week you can hear me saying “I love my job” – not only are there GREAT people who work here but I generally just love learning something new every day.
4. What inspired you to work in this field?
Through my previous experience, I’ve seen how much of a difference inclusive projects can make in people’s lives. Even though I haven’t worked in cycling before, the chance to help make mobility accessible for everyone felt like the perfect way to bring together what I care about most – breaking down barriers and helping communities grow.
5. What’s your favourite type of cycle we offer, and why?
There is such an amazing variety of cycles in our showroom. My go-to demo to take out is the Van Raam Easy Rider Compact though.
6. Can you share a memorable moment you’ve had while working here?
I am fortunate that part of my job is to go out to events and meet great people in the community. My first event was the Superhero Series triathlon in August. Not only was it a great time away with part of our team but the sportsmanship and excitement at this event was incredible. I overheard one participant state “I never thought I’d be able to do this” while cycling off from our area. That still sticks with me.
7. How do you spend your time when you’re not at work?
I live in a small village outside of York so enjoy the countryside a lot. I’ve got 3 boys at home (husband, son and dog) so always something going on! I’ve had an allotment since lockdown and it has taken over my life in the best way possible. I’m Chair of the PTA so always doing something locally. Painted 3 murals this last year! I do leave the village every so often though to do some travelling. I love a city break weekend.
8. If you could take any of our cycles on an adventure, where would you go?
I’m new to cycling and from Florida originally so somewhere where it is not that cold and has lots of resting spots I think! Whisk me away to a tropical island, please.
9. What’s one thing about you that might surprise your colleagues?
I love karaoke.
10. In your own words, why is the work we do important?
We can get anyone on a cycle is a motto here that has really stuck with me. Up until I started, I was sadly unaware of the variety of cycles that are out there. Get Cycling helps people stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and gain independence. They are building a more inclusive, healthy, and connected community through cycling, ensuring no one is left out.
11. Anything else you’d like to share?
Seriously though, can we go karaoke?
Thanks, Paula!
Keep your eyes peeled for more team member spotlights and get to know the people who make Get Cycling tick.
