Free Bike Servicing for Key Workers – Looking Back and Moving Forward
During 2020 and 2021, the pandemic changed how many people travelled to work. Cycling became a safe and reliable option, especially for those working on the frontline.
As part of the national Big Bike Revival programme led by Cycling UK, funding was provided to bike shops across the country to offer free bike servicing for key workers. The aim was simple. Help people keep their bikes safe and roadworthy so they could continue travelling to essential jobs.
We were proud to take part in this initiative at Get Cycling CIC. It allowed us to support key workers in York with free servicing at a time when it was needed most. We met NHS staff, carers, delivery drivers, teachers and many others who relied on their bikes every day.
What Has Changed?
That specific emergency funding programme has now ended. However, our commitment to supporting people to cycle safely has not changed.
We continue to:
- Offer affordable bike servicing and repairs
- Provide refurbished cycles to keep costs down
- Share information about funding and support schemes
- Support inclusive cycling for disabled people and those with additional needs
If you are returning to cycling, commuting again, or simply need your bike checked over, we are here to help.

Cycling remains a practical, healthy and affordable way to travel. We are always pleased to support our local community to keep riding.
