The Superhero Series and the Importance of Inclusive Cycling
The Superhero Series, powered by Marvel has helped demonstrate what is possible when sport is designed to be truly inclusive. As the UK’s largest disability sports event, it has created opportunities for thousands of people to take part in cycling, running, swimming, and other activities in a welcoming and supportive environment.
What makes the Superhero Series unique is its focus on participation. The event removes many of the barriers that can prevent disabled people and those with additional support needs from getting involved in sport. Participants can take part individually or with support from family members, friends, or carers, creating an experience that works for them.
Cycling for everyone
Cycling plays an important role at events such as the Superhero Series. Participants use a wide range of cycles depending on their needs and preferences.
These can include:
- Trikes for additional stability
- Handcycles
- Tandems
- Side-by-side cycles
- Wheelchair transport cycles
- Recumbent cycles
As a result, more people can experience the enjoyment, independence, and confidence that cycling can bring.
Why inclusive events matter
Events like the Superhero Series show that cycling does not have to look the same for everyone. They help challenge perceptions and highlight the many different ways people can ride.
In addition, they provide opportunities for people to try new activities, build confidence, and connect with others who share similar experiences.
For many participants, taking part is about much more than crossing a finish line. It is about freedom, achievement, and being part of a community.
Supporting inclusive cycling
At Get Cycling CIC, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy cycling. We continue to support individuals, families, community groups, and organisations across the UK to find cycling solutions that work for them.
