Helping More People Get Cycling: Careers in Inclusive Cycling
At Get Cycling CIC, our work has always been about more than simply selling cycles. We support people of all ages and abilities to discover the freedom, independence, and joy that cycling can bring.
Over the years, our team has included people from a wide range of backgrounds including retail, customer service, cycling, community work, disability support, and social enterprise. One of the roles we previously recruited for was a Sales Coordinator position within our specialist cycle department in York.

Supporting Riders Through Inclusive Cycling
This role focused on helping customers find the right cycle for their individual needs, including:
- Adult tricycle bikes
- Disability tricycles
- Recumbent cycles
- Specialist bikes
- Adapted bikes
- Accessible cycles for disabled riders
- Cycles for people with additional needs
The position involved working directly with customers during demonstrations, appointments, and cycle try-outs while helping create a welcoming and supportive environment.
What the Role Included
The Sales Coordinator role combined customer service, cycle knowledge, and social impact work.
Responsibilities included:
- Welcoming customers into the showroom
- Organising cycle demonstrations and appointments
- Advising on specialist bikes and adaptations
- Supporting inclusive cycling for disabled riders
- Helping schools, charities, organisations, and families
- Coordinating quotes, servicing, and aftercare
- Assisting with marketing and community outreach
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the bike shop
The role was ideal for somebody passionate about accessibility and helping people build confidence.
Specialist Cycle Knowledge and Training
Because what we do is highly specialised, training formed a major part of the role. Team members learned about:
- Disability bikes
- Recumbent tricycles
- Adult tricycle bikes
- Cycling for disabled adults
- Accessible equipment
- Adaptations and riding support
Strong communication skills and empathy were especially important, as many customers were returning to it after illness, injury, disability, or long periods without riding.
