Partnering with the University of York: Student Projects Driving Inclusive Cycling

Each year from January to March the University of York Management School offer student consultancy projects to local businesses. The university students who take part are studying a wide variety of management subjects. They join together as teams to then be allocated a business that most meets their interest areas.

For the past four years, Get Cycling CIC has been proud to collaborate with these student teams. Their research and insights have played a key role in shaping our services. They have helped improve our operations. They have also helped us plan new projects that better meet the needs of our customers.

Understanding Our Community

This year, a team of students—Yan, Shivam, Henry and Marisa—have been working with us to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of both existing and potential customers. They have developed a short survey on brand awareness and perception. This will provide valuable insights to guide how we communicate and engage with our community.

The project is part of our ongoing commitment to inclusivity. By understanding the people we serve and their experiences, we can make our cycles, hire schemes and services even more accessible and welcoming.

Supporting Local Care Homes and Community Groups

The student team is also supporting an exciting project to provide free cycle loans to care homes and community groups for people with disabilities across York and Yorkshire. This initiative is designed to make cycling more accessible for those who may face physical, social, or financial barriers. It gives them the opportunity to enjoy the freedom, independence, and well-being that cycling can bring.

Thanks to Our Student Partners

We are incredibly grateful to Yan, Shivam, Henry and Marisa for their hard work, dedication, and fresh perspectives. Their research and enthusiasm continue to help Get Cycling CIC deliver inclusive cycling opportunities that truly meet the needs of our community.

We look forward to continuing this partnership with the University of York and seeing the positive impact of these projects for years to come.
