Welcome to the Cycle 50% Challenge. Here you can find out more
about the programme and access a range of resources to help you decide if you'd like to take
part.
Royal Holloway University London and Surrey County Council have
teamed up to give you the amazing offer of a high quality bike for just £63.25! It doesn’t stop
there, the price includes a helmet, lights, D-lock, rack and mudguards.
The Cycle 50% Challenge is an initiative designed to encourage people like you to try cycling
to work, (or in this case; to University). You may want to get a bit fitter and get some more
exercise into your life. You may be fed up with sitting in traffic jams and trying to find
somewhere to park. Or you may want to do your bit for the environment and reduce your CO2
emissions.
Surrey County Council and Royal Holloway University are offering students and staff the
opportunity to try cycling in over a four week ‘challenge’ period. A quality commuter-style bike
along with D- lock, lights and helmet, together with a range of other support measures is on
offer. Basically you borrow the lot for the challenge period and decide if you want to purchase
it when the four weeks is up.
During the four week challenge period your aim will be to cycle for at least 50% of your
available journeys, (you could go for 100%, it’s up to you!). By doing this we hope that you
will be convinced of the many benefits that come with riding a bike.
All participants will have the opportunity to purchase their bikes and equipment at the end
of the challenge, at the price stated above.
You can find out more at the Cycle 50% Challenge Roadshow:
Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th October
Outside the Windsor Building from 10am-4.30pm
The Roadshow also features Cycle Surgery! Bring your bike along for a free service!
At this event you can try the bikes that are available to participants and indicate your
preference, as well as talking to the programme organisers. The Roadshow is not solely intended
to entice you to take up the challenge but is also intended as a cycle commuter support and
encouragement event. Someone will be there to discuss any aspect of cycling with you. There will
be a broad range of support literature available for you to take away for free. So even if you
do not believe that the challenge would suit you, please feel free to come along anyway. There
will also be a few unusual bikes that you can try-out for a bit of fun.
