Green-Link Delivery and Distribution

Green Link Green Link Green Link

Local authorities spend thousands of pounds and many valuable person-hours moving internal mail, parcels, packages, print and other items between their various sites and out to residents. In general, council-run vans, employees’ own cars and even taxis are used to carry out most of this distribution work.

There is an alternative. Green-Link is a quick and flexible emission-free delivery and distribution service designed around the specific needs of local authorities. It involves specialised carrier cycles, and an electric vehicle where necessary. We collect, handle, sort and deliver a range of items up to 200kg. This service was first launched in 2004, for Luton Borough Council. It has saved money and staff resources, providing very visible support for sustainable transport, traffic reduction and air quality improvement.

Green-Link currently operates in Darlington, Luton and York, and we provided the consultancy and pilot scheme which allowed the Wirral to undertake a successful service of their own. In each case the service is run and grown by well-trained local people. In Darlington and Luton we have now passed the business entirely over to the local operators, who have used their initiative to expand and employ others.

We have long experience in the logistics of pedal-powered distribution services. If we believe your town or city is right for a Green-Link service we will conduct a feasibility study for a modest fee, with a view to long-term, cost-saving commercial operations. Usually we can tell you pretty quickly at no cost if your town or city would not benefit.

Alternatively, as a local authority or large private business, you may wish to explore the possibility of establishing your own, in-house emission-free delivery and distribution service to compliment or partially replace your existing services. In this instance, Green-Link consultancy services can provide comprehensive consultancy and planning. plus ongoing training and support. For example, we set up a pilot scheme for the Wirral which enabled them to ‘go-it-alone’ using their own resources.
